Querykeep, credits
Game design and code by Micah McCaul for Very Important Meeting. Querykeep is built on Coinfall, its sister game on this site, and like Coinfall it owes an obvious debt to the Kingdom series by Noio and Licorice.
The lessons
The tomes follow the order and the ideas of the SQLZoo SQL tutorial, from SELECT basics through joins, NULL, self joins and window functions. The questions, hints and explanations are written for this game. The SQLZoo tutorial is still the best place to go next.
The world table holds rounded figures from around 2020. The nobel table is a sample of real winners from 1901 to 2024, not every prize. The tourney, the players at the manor, the stewards, the carts, the council elections and the Greed tally are made up for the game.
The SQL
Your queries run in your own browser on SQLite (public domain), through sql.js (MIT license). Nothing you type leaves your computer.
Art
Nearly everything you see comes from the free pixel art packs at CraftPix.net: the woodcutter, grave robber and steam man (the ruler wears them in royal purple) with their running, reading and crafting animations, the animal sheets, the villagers, the farming, blacksmith, mining, fishing, herbalism, cookery, engineering, alchemy and magic sets (the scribe and the lecterns come from the magic set), the field, forest and swamp enemies and bosses, the platformer, tiny forest, ruins, swamp and trees-and-bushes tilesets, the castle defense tileset, the doors and portals pack, the fire animations and the bow and armor icons. Used under the CraftPix free license. The stone walls and towers are Micah's own.
All art was cropped and packed for this game. None of it is offered here as a download.
Sound
Sound effects from the 400 Sounds Pack by Chequered Ink (ci.itch.io). Music chosen from Micah's own library of medieval and quiet string pieces.
