Pyrefall

Learn Python by day. Code the town's defenses by night.

Pyrefall teaches Python one day at a time. By day you ride out from the fire, hire villagers, build walls and towers, and visit the scriptorium to learn the day's tome. The sun won't set until you have learned it.

At dusk you write a ward, a small Python program that reads each attacker's scout report and gives an answer. When your ward answers the way it should, that Greed is marked and your archers hit it three times as hard. Get it wrong and they hit at half strength. There are 43 tomes and 298 questions across three islands, following coddy.tech's Python course from the basics through to classes. A guided tutorial walks you through your first day and night.

First release

Pyrefall version 0.1

Pyrefall opens: a side-scrolling kingdom where you learn a Python tome each day and write a ward to defend the town each night, following coddy.tech's Python course.

Additions

  • Kingdom building in side view: ride, drop coins to hire villagers, hand out tools, raise walls and towers, and hold out against the Greed each night.
  • 43 tomes and 298 questions following coddy.tech's Python course:
    • The Fields: Fundamentals (15 tomes)
    • The Old Woods: Logic and Flow (15 tomes)
    • The Drowned Marsh: Object Oriented Programming (13 tomes)
  • One tome a day at the scriptorium by the fire. Later tomes stay locked until their day.
  • The sun waits at the end of the day until the day's tome is learned. Then the ward bell can call the night early.
  • The ward: at dusk you write a small Python program that reads each Greed's scout report. If it gives the right answer the Greed is marked and arrows hit it 3 times as hard. A wrong answer means half damage.
  • "Test on the yard" tries your ward on six practice Greed before you set it.
  • A ward that crashes marks nobody and tells you why. Ring the bell at night to rewrite it, and the new ward judges every Greed already out there.
  • Project tomes build one program step by step:
    • Bill Split
    • FizzBuzz
    • Expense Tracker
    • Contact Book
    • Student Records
    • Inventory
    • Library
  • Coins come from the tomes: each question pays once per reign, more for harder ones, and 1 coin if you looked at the answer.
  • The boat to the next island waits until every tome on the island is learned.
  • Your Python runs right in the page and prints what real Python 3.13 would.
